(only digitally)
Hello darlings,
After some debate and mostly internet connection issues, I have decided to move my lil blog over to a new address; http://hibougirl.blogspot.com Kindly update your bookmarks/feeds accordingly.
Everything is over there and so far (crossed fingers!) hunky-dory.
On to new adventures!

I feel that I begin many posts with; "It's been a while, but I'm not dead..." Haha. Life has been full since graduating. There was a "Senior Portfolio Zoo" as we affectionately call it, where the year's graduating seniors present their portfolios to the invited public, most of which consists of the local theatre representatives. I had spent the night with my friend Dani Annahttp://www.blogger.com/profile/13882894414102736983noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-16991663.post-92098820087571291832014-04-17T10:36:00.002-07:002014-04-17T10:36:31.555-07:00Wedding Bits
Some of you may already know, I haven't spoken about it here, but the Mr. and I finally (finally!!) set a date for our wedding! We're tying the knot on October 31st, 2014! Yep, this Halloween.
We finalised the date sometime in January and I have delved deep, deep into the madness that is wedding planning. If I could go back in time and give myself oneAnnahttp://www.blogger.com/profile/13882894414102736983noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-16991663.post-29310788591084568612014-03-05T20:59:00.000-08:002014-04-11T21:21:21.925-07:00Pioneer Square Afternoon
I work in downtown Seattle, and have for almost seven years now, so once in a while, I enjoy being a tourist/wanderer in my hometown.
The day was bright and not too cold, so my feet carried me away from Pike Place Market, along first avenue and down underneath the freeway exit at Columbia st.
There were stairs, so naturally I had to go down to explore...
I ate lunch at the Annahttp://www.blogger.com/profile/13882894414102736983noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-16991663.post-83019000131500797452014-02-21T21:15:00.000-08:002014-02-21T21:15:24.087-08:00A collection of observations on my view.
My apartment has only two windows. One in the bedroom and the other in the living room. They over look the same beige backs of the condos on the other side of the street, the little parking lot, and the insufficient awning that attempts to shelter bicycles behind ours. A weathered grey wooden fence separates the lots, dotted with ambitious moss and some sage green squiggly Annahttp://www.blogger.com/profile/13882894414102736983noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-16991663.post-75351414286068961592014-01-16T10:10:00.000-08:002014-01-16T10:10:14.316-08:00On Tattoos
I was chatting with my husband and father in law tonight, recounting favourite work stories, and I realised how new I really am to the world of 'those who have tattoos'
I recently finished up a chest piece, which is something I never really thought I would invest in, but am enjoying now that I do.
I had an encounter at a Christmas party wherein a middle aged woman came up to me and Annahttp://www.blogger.com/profile/13882894414102736983noreply@blogger.com3tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-16991663.post-4930919959875145682014-01-13T13:19:00.001-08:002014-01-24T12:43:59.372-08:00Documentary Review: Blackfish
I have been talking with several friends about reactions to Blackfish, many hadn't seen it yet but knew the media hype of it's sensationalism.
I found this film to be beautiful, sad, tragic, and well balanced for telling a story that has two opposing sides. The main message that the reviews gave it was that it focused on the tragic death of trainer, Dawn Brancheau in 2010. &Annahttp://www.blogger.com/profile/13882894414102736983noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-16991663.post-5587774559270019872014-01-13T12:35:00.001-08:002014-01-13T12:35:22.918-08:00Snippets
Life has been busy post college. Busy with remembering how to be a human, busy with visiting friends and family, busy with puttering around my little apartment. So busy, in fact, that I have deeply neglected this poor little blog. That, my dears, will soon come to an end. I have books to share, documentaries to review, and sewing and knitting goodness coming your way!

The last several days have been difficult. It seems that graduating from college is rather like coming home from a long, long, grueling travel. That's it! I feel like Bilbo coming home from his adventures with the Dwarves. That must have been quite an odd thing for him if you pause and think about it. He had gone from this quiet person who was more concerned withAnnahttp://www.blogger.com/profile/13882894414102736983noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-16991663.post-45238413809462505992013-11-02T19:39:00.001-07:002013-12-17T11:02:45.125-08:00Photo an Hour - Costume Load In!

10am - reworking some costumes in the dye room.
11am- still dying. Watching water boil since there is a class in costume shop.

England came and went and was wonderful. Cornish has swallowed me whole in her typical greedy fashion. I am working like mad on Neverwhere and still needing to post all about Europe.Once again, bear with me and it will follow. Not only are my own nuptials approaching (Halloween 2014!), but I also work at a small improv theatre in Pike Place Market where we get our share of batchellorette parties. Here are some things that I notice;
There is a notion that your wedding day will be the "best day of your life"
Being a batchellorette means this will be the last time to be wild and free, kick up your heels, flirt, Annahttp://www.blogger.com/profile/13882894414102736983noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-16991663.post-29710263054328389552013-08-18T20:51:00.000-07:002013-10-02T20:05:17.676-07:00Oh Those Wildi Girls!
I prattle on in here a lot about family, Curtiss family, Millbank family, and some of the Wildi family, but I haven't shared stories about becoming "one of The Girls"
Karin and Mom

It's a story of mothers and their daughters, of cousins who are like sisters. These Wildi Girls are the sweetest, silliest, most fun gals to pal around with. As I walked home tonight I realised just how much I missed a real summer. Not in the sense that the weather has been a let down, but in the things I used to do as a kid. I stopped for a moment, the street light shaded by an overgrown laurel, and looked up at the stars. For the first time in years I could make out Orion's Belt and the Dipper. And childhood came Annahttp://www.blogger.com/profile/13882894414102736983noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-16991663.post-37653376918226301452013-08-02T11:31:00.000-07:002013-08-02T11:31:10.957-07:00On Being a Geek
So, Shaming. Let's take a moment and talk about that.
There are so many kinds of shaming out there I can't even begin to count them. Let's focus on geek shaming. Not just girl shaming (which is really sad) but geek shaming, because I've been thinking a lot about it this week.
Because I am a woman, I am more aware of the girl shaming that goes on. Fat shaming, skinny Annahttp://www.blogger.com/profile/13882894414102736983noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-16991663.post-56399653877395621132013-07-31T14:43:00.003-07:002013-07-31T14:43:59.435-07:00Sunlight through Fog
Today Seattle is covered in fog. The air hints of the fall crispness yet to come. Weather like this makes me reflect on life, not really sure why, but it does. This September will be the last time I go to college. It will be my last orientation, my last few classes, the last time I get grades. I don't know quite how to feel about it. Certainly there is the Annahttp://www.blogger.com/profile/13882894414102736983noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-16991663.post-21339372900429592732013-07-25T10:19:00.000-07:002013-08-02T21:51:51.605-07:00Neverwhere Design - Part One
I don't think I've written about my senior project for Cornish yet, so here's the beginning!
Cornish is doing a stage adaptation of Neil Gaiman's Neverwhere, and I have the honor and delight to be designing the costumes for it. If you didn't know already, I am an enormous fan of Neil Gaiman's works (as well as his wife, Amanda Palmer's music) and was utterly over the moon with Annahttp://www.blogger.com/profile/13882894414102736983noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-16991663.post-34424906441535212032013-07-17T13:17:00.001-07:002013-07-18T11:55:48.089-07:00

One of the delights of growing up is spending time with people in totally new ways. My mom and I have had a lovely relationship throughout my childhood, but it wasn't until recently that we have started spending time together as adults. We go out for brunch, we peruse antique stores, go shopping at the thrift stores for treasures. China is our favourite thing to look for. &Annahttp://www.blogger.com/profile/13882894414102736983noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-16991663.post-41419957655019601392013-07-17T13:00:00.000-07:002013-07-17T13:00:07.257-07:00Currently: July
It feels like only yesterday I was done with school for the summer and impatiently awaiting the arrival of warmer weather. Today I am trying to ignore how close August is, which means September and the start of school. Not that it's a terrible thing; I am going to England AND graduating this year. It just means the busy time is up next and I feel like I haven't quite exhaustedAnnahttp://www.blogger.com/profile/13882894414102736983noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-16991663.post-25097706578078004722013-06-05T14:40:00.001-07:002013-06-05T15:45:09.771-07:00Farewell Sweet Maggie
My step-grandma passed away April 28, 2013 after a long decline from Alzheimer's disease. She came into our lives in 1991 when she and my grandpa married. It was a second marriage for each of them, and it was much needed companionship. She was a brilliant cook, often just cooking by instinct rather than from a recipe. She also sewed without using patterns.

Folks have been asking what I've been up to so far, what with it being Summer Vacay and all. Well, I started up on my internship with Seattle Shakespeare Company, working on Huck Finn, Taming of the Shrew, and then organising The Shoe Room. The costume shop for Seattle Shakes is tiny and is responsible for maintaining the touring shows, building and altering the mainstage Annahttp://www.blogger.com/profile/13882894414102736983noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-16991663.post-55358028535258470252013-05-13T09:30:00.000-07:002013-05-13T09:30:11.560-07:00Silent Mamas
Mother's Day was, until three years ago, a day of celebrating my mother and looking forwards to the day I can be a mama too. It wasn't until I endured, suffered, experienced loosing my own tiny little baby that I came to think about the mothers who don't show any outward signs of being a mama. And I want to acknowledge them too.
This would have been my third mother's day, and Annahttp://www.blogger.com/profile/13882894414102736983noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-16991663.post-27992113119485788322013-05-06T12:27:00.000-07:002013-05-06T12:27:32.662-07:00The Good in the World
It's Monday. Often it's the difficult day of the week because we're all still luxuriating in the weekend, so I have a pick-me-up for ya!
This video, from dash cams in Russia made me all fuzzy inside, and perhaps tear up a little. It's not the cats that were rescued, or the mama duck and her ducklings. I'm spending time today doing research for a project I have in my Work in Contemporary Society class and it's taken me deep into the depths of feminism and the myth that "women can have it all".
I am saddened that there seem to be two opposing forces, mainly in the form of Anne-Marie Slaughter and Sheryl Sandberg.
Sheryl Sandberg is a highly successful woman who has, almost magically, been ableAnnahttp://www.blogger.com/profile/13882894414102736983noreply@blogger.com0
